Just wanted to see what the consensus is for Trokars vs Gammy's.
After fishing the last 20 years with primarily Gamakatsu hooks, (4/0 EWG Superline) for probably 80% of my fishing applications, I tried the Trokars. I've been fishing them now for about a year.
I think that it is indisputable that the Trokars are exponentially sharper, which allows for a more penetrating hookset with less effort required. I have had a very high hook up and retention ratio, maybe slight edge to the Trokars over the Gammy's.
The price comparison is the Trokars are about $1.oo to $1.25 per 5-pack more than the Gammy's. Which...being the addictive fisherman that I am, I don't mind paying the extra.
The Ugly: For whatever reason, the Trokars rust and pit like crazy. I've never had a problem, that I can recall, with the Gammy's showing any sign of rust. After one trip, I usually notice rust around the eye and on my Palomar knot. Also, on the various parts of the hook.
I want to support an American made product, but the Return on Investment has got me second guessing it. For now, I've decided to use the Gammy's for prefishing and the Trok's for tournament use, since they seem to be more of a "one and done" product.
Thoughts????

I switch to Trokar flipping hooks this year and have zero complaints. they are stout. They don't flex and I think that helps. I use big plastics and the sharp points helps with penetration.

Trokars are trash in my opinion. The points bend too easy. Owner heavy wires are what I use.

I tried Trokars but I lost too many fish.
Ripped big holes on their mouths and the hooks fall out

With any head to head comparison, you're going to have people weighing in on both sides. I use Trokar 90% of the time.

lots of factors go on hooked fish,i know some say this is better than that but really boils down to how and where the fish is hooked. remember what the texas state record was caught on.

Vmc and gammy and owner all over trokar. I dont like the angles on a bunch of the trokar hooks. The Flippin hook in particular

Another vote for Gammy's and Owners. Not a fan of VMC or Trokars.

Another vote for Gammy's and Owners. Not a fan of VMC or Trokars. Curious why you dont like vmc. Welded eyes and overall the best quality for the$$$ i think... also they dont bend out near as easy as gammys. I only use superline gammys
