First off, this is Rhonda posting. For those of you that don't know, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2015. After a hard fought battle, I was declared cancer free. I was shocked when I was diagnosed because I had gone yearly and had my checkup and mammograms. I had my colonoscopy when I turned 50. I had done everything we are told to do for early detection of any medical issues. What I didn't know, and had never discussed with my doctor, is that ovarian cancer is not detected by a papsmear. There is no FDA approved early screening test for this cancer. The symptoms are very generic - bloating, not able to finish a meal (feeling full quickly), pelvic pain and a frequent urge to urinate. All symptoms of many other issues. However, if these last longer than two weeks, talk to your gynecologist about checking for ovarian cancer. They can run a CA125 blood test and do a pelvic ultrasound, as well as a CT scan. You have to be your own advocate, or your loved one's advocate!! Because there is no screening test, this cancer is usually found in late stages. Jay and I discussed how we could spread awareness for this disease, which is a silent killer. We decided to use our love for crappie fishing and join forces with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) and wrap our boat with their logo and colors. We are asking people to donate to the NOCC on behalf of Team Reeve. If you send $100 or more, we will add your name or company logo, or an "in memory of" or "in honor of" sticker on our boat. Our goal is to raise as much money as we can and cover our boat completely with names and logos. All donations are tax deductible and will be used by the NOCC to raise awareness, find an early screening test and a cure. You can go online and give at give.ovarian.org/teamreeve or you can send a check made out to the NOCC to Team Reeve at 268 S. Gun Barrel Lane, Gun Barrel City, TX 75156. I'll finish with some statistics. Over 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year. Of these, over 14,000 will die. Of those that survive, less than half will live for 5 years. We have to change these stats!! Please help Team Reeve in our quest to spread awareness and change these stats!!! Thank you!!! Rhonda

I lost my wife to ovarian cancer in 2000. Neither of us knew that this didn't show up in her normal testing. She was gone 10 weeks after being diagnosed.

So sorry for your loss. This outcome has to be changed! Awareness is key to get the conversations started. It's critical to get an FDA approved early screening test.
