I have a helix 12 g2n di with chirp hooked up at the bow of the boat mounted to the trolling motor. Took it to the lake this past weekend and I am getting strange reading with the di and chirp. When I hit the trolling motor the depth goes to 600ff to 1000ft and the di and chirp get small on the graph, and as soon as I let up on the trolling motor it reads normal. Any insight to fix this? I think I'm getting interference somewhere or something! Can't figure it out, any help would be much appreciated!

power to the graph needs to come straight off the battery.

It's hooked up straight to the battery, I have 2 separate leads from my graph on the cockpit and the one from the trolling motor.

Unfortunately it sounds like interference with the trolling motor and it can be a PIA to get rid of at times. First are your wires from the TM and FF separated and run down opposite sides of the boat? By separated I mean under the deck as much as possible? Is it a MK TM? There is a small fuse inside the head to help prevent this so check to see if it might be bad. Next step would be a choke. MK will sell you one that splices into the power cable of the TM. I went to Radio Shack and bought several snap one that helped a little. In the end, my problem was it was too close to the TM and the TM power cable kept getting too close. I solved mine by relocating the FF further to the right corner away from the TM and it stopped.
Take it one step at a time until you figure out the solution. You can do a search and theirs been several who had issues and see what they did to correct it. There are also some YouTube videos out there with different fixes. Not sure why some get it and some don't. Never had it until I changed to my 3rd or 4th tm.

You and me both, I've got the same problem with my Helix 12 G2n DI. From what I've gathered on BBC (HB forum) is that we need the trolling motor specific transducer, not the transom which I have on a shield and saver.

Thanks guys, the power wire is ran separate or on the other side of the boat. I will check the fuse in the mk head also! I will also be checking the transducer to see if it is indeed the right one. A marine dealership did the wiring and hooked up everything, they are a reputable place also! I have to take the boat in tomorrow to have my transducer saver installed and also my precision sonar mount for my 12 in the cockpit. I would think they would have enough sense to install the right transducer and I asked to run seperate leads for power on the graphs! Will see what they say tomorrow! Sucks when you get out on the water to fish and this happens! Was messing around with the graph more than fishing!

I would think they would have enough sense to install the right transducer One would think, but you have to actually exchange the transom for the trolling motor transducer with Humminbird. The standard ducer is the transom, and on my new boat the factory installed that on a shield and saver. Which is actually more expensive than exchanging.

Well I will have to look into that tomorrow most definitely! That makes sense that this could be the issue!

It could also be electro interference due to the motor. A motor is copper windings and magnets. With the ducer mounted directly to the "motor" part of the TM it is possible it's giving weird interference.

Well I will have to look into that tomorrow most definitely! That makes sense that this could be the issue! There are two DI trolling motor pucks. They have extra internal shielding for possible RFI issues. They need no mount, comes with stainless steel hose clamps. There is no guarantee that it will fix your RFI issue, but is the first thing that should be done for a trolling motor application. XTM 9 DI 25 T is tuned to the same 2D frequencies as the transom DI transducer--200/455 kHz. The unit setting for that is DI 200/455 kHz. XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T is tuned for 83/200 kHz 2D which will give you more coverage and deeper capability. The unit setting for that is DI 83/200 kHz.

Here is the transducer they added to my mk is this the right looking one? Nope, that's the transom ducer on a trolling motor mount, just as I have. The worst thing about it, is now that the ducer is opened and used, you cannot exchange it with HB, and have to pay full price for the correct ducer.

So correct me if I'm wrong anybody, from my understanding you can use the transom transducer on the tm? Is this right or not?
