I have been fishing 30lb braid and adding a 15lb flourcarbon leader. I have had several brakes at the knot. The braid is breaking. What do you recommend, should I just forget the leader.

The braid is breaking? Odd, try Alberto knot.

Which line to line knot are you using?

How long of a leader?

What brand of braid? Is it slick braid?

What type of fishing are you doing (drop shot? jerkbaits?)

Baitcaster? microguides? Spinning rod?

Improved crazy alberto or uni to uni with power pro has done well.

If you are using a coated "slick" braid'' carefully remove the coating with fingernails before tying the line to line knot.

6-7ft leader. If the line to line knot ends up in the spool, there is more wear and tear on the knot

only thing I use braid on is frogs... don't see the benefit of adding a leader to braid to use flouro... if you don't want to spool an entire reel with flouro then back it with cheap mono half way and then tie the flouro on and finish spoiling with 60-80 yards or what you think you will use. Knot connection never comes in play. Just my opinion though.

Not to hi-jack, but for all of my braid-fluoro unions I am using the double uni (uni to uni). I do this just because that is what I have always used for offshore and salt fishing. I haven't had any issues and it comes through the guides well. Other than the fact that is has proven itself time and again in service, is there another knot that is more suited for thse applications? I haven't joined 2 lines of vastly differing diameter with this knot other than offshore topshots with thicker mono. So I guess my question is as it pertains to this post is is this knot the best suited for these applications?

GROD - I do this on my fluoro rigs and just ensure that the union doesn't come off the reel but I am about to get into light braid to fluoro for dropshot instead of running straight fluoro. I understand that it helps with the twist and is easier to use on sewing machines.

50 or 65lb Power Pro and usually a 17 or 20lb fluoro leader. I tie an Alberto knot and make the leader just long enough so it ends up between the first guide and the reel when the bait is reeled all the way up. Only time I break off is when I get hung up and have to break it, and I've never had it break at the knot.

Move up to 40# or 50# braid or go down a power on your rod. I used to use 30# on most of my baitcasters but had similar issues. Plus, it won't backlash as much.

I usually fish lighter(20#) braid since I own size 50 and 70 reels and work sparser cover, so I forgo a leader entirely (and I definitely don't feel like it's necessary for the 10# braid on my spinning gear). But if I have to use a leader, I go with the double Uni knot or the blood knot. I've never had Powerpro or Sufix 832 braid break on hooksets or snap during casting so I would recommend those. Spiderwire is pretty trash.
