In removing the floor in the old house, my son found some newspapers from 1942. Pretty cool.

The news reporting industry had some integrity then and reported the news, did not try to shape public opinion.

I'll give my son a call and ask him to photo copy or photo all pages and send me a copy that I will post here.

couple observations.....politically correct hadn't been invented yet and highway fatalities were through the roof back then. ...note the headline that said 18 killed.....we had unsafe cars and unsafe highways...as a kid growing up in the 40's and 50's,we didn't have seat belts or airbags....almost all highways were two lane with no passing lanes....trees and poles right on side of road meaning if you had to swerve off the road, you were apt to crash head-on into a tree or light pole...metal dashboards and glass wasn't shatterproof...many drivers were killed in head-on collisions when the steering wheel would come through their chest...

Very cool.
When we were cleaning out an old building my grandfather owned in 2003 we found a wooden box about 4'x4'.
Inside there were dishes and cookware wrapped in a Abilene Reporter Journal dated January 4 1942.
We found out the family that owned the stuff put it there when the husband was joined the marines to fight ww2 and the wife and kids moved to Houston to live with her parents. We found out their name but never found them. Last name of Jones so it was a needle in haystack.
