Read an article of a few bassmaster pro's running 2 starting batteries in parallel to increase life during a day of running all their graphs starting the boat and livewell any cons to this besides added weight?

Not really. I have done this several times. Was wondering if I should try to get a matching pair.

How does the charging system of the motor handle it?

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Muzzlebrake it'll charge the same as always from what I'm told took the boat out today for 8hours and never had a problem which is nice since I use to have to run chumper cables to my trolling motor battery if I clean the livewell all day with graphs

I installed a Lowrance HDI 7 and ended up putting a switch on it because I leave in boat and it was drain in battery. Anyone else experience this?

I run 2 HDS 8's 1-2 days before a charge on group 31 interstate without any problems, also rewired with 12ga stranded and that really helped a lot.

After getting stranded from a defective relatively new (3 months) AGM cranking battery...I bought this Blue Sea Systems Add-A-Battery Kit

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BFVHDNA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had it installed so the electronics run off the "house battery" and I can combine the two in an emergency...device lets your motor charge both batteries...but isolates them when in use...so far has worked great...

I put the batt voltage on my graphs as a overlay.
when batt drops to 11.5, to 11.0 I start the motor for a couple of minutes to bring it back to 12+.
never a problem with just one battery.

I run one battery for nothing but the starter. All of my other electronics are on their own battery. Been running it for a year and never had another dead battery

My new Ranger Z520 has a battery switch very similar to what ToadThrower posted that allow the battery selection of the 1st, 2nd, 1st & 2nd (Jump), or none. The only thing I was told to watch was to ensure I did not have the jump mode selected when I plugged in the charger. My boat has a 4 bank charger so both batteries are on separate charger banks. So I don't think there are any issues with running the motor in dual battery mode or Ranger would have some caution in the manual.
