The wife and I are moving from an apartment to a house here in a month. I am going to have to get a lawn mower. Is self propelled necessary? Or is it just something else to break and run the cost up? What do y'all have and how do you like it?
We are going to have a relatively small yard, so a riding mower is not necessary.

Self propelled is nice but not necessary. Mine went out so now I just push it. A good engine is important if you want it to last a bit.

I like the cheapest mower with the biggest engine. Big back wheels help. I figure propulsion just eats up power.

Save your money, just hire a person
Lawn crews will mow, weed eat, and blow the grass off concrete and sidewalk for $25 per week. Just use them a few months a year and don't worry about a lawn mower.

I prefer self-propelled. My wife has never mowed a yard in her life. I let her push the mower a about 10 ft and it made her appreciate what I do to keep the yard looking decent. I didn't tell her that it was self-propelled and she pushed it without engaging that.

Self propelled every time. If it's really small, consider a battery powered electric.

Would never buy a self propelled mower, in my experience they are always more trouble than they are worth, they cost more, and its not like its hard to push a mower to begin with.

I can't imagine not having self propelled. Get a Honda. Have never had a problem with it.

Rent house.. pay a person. If you own, and want a nice well maintained and thick lawn.. self propelled is a must. I mow mine on the highest setting and it is still a bear to mow... and I mow every 6 days.
