Hollow body Frogs: Great for really working an area slow and steady, or loud and fast. They can go over open water or closer to shore. Since they are hollow, they will float so the bait can be left in a strike zone longer for a fish to strike. They also have a lot of features such as size, colours, popping mouths, skirted legs, plastic legs, and some even have buzzers on the front. They are also super weed less and can be put through some thick cover, drawn over wood or brush, or I have even seen guys have the line dangled from a branch over the water while dipping the frog in and out of the water to get the bass to explode on it. The only thing that can be a hindrance is the hook up ratio. Almost all of them have a double frog hook, but since those hooks are very close to the body, the bass has to bite hard and right on the frog to get those hooks exposed for you to set it. You can bend the hooks out, add trailer hooks, etc...you will just effect how weed less your frog will be. All in all, they are very versatile and one of my favourite types...despite they do cost more.
Soft Plastic Frogs: these are just like what they sound like. Soft plastic imitations of frogs. With these types of bait you will not get as much detail as a hollow body frog. They are more cost efficient since you can usually get anywhere from 2-6 frogs for what it would cost for one hollow body. They can also be rigged different ways. You can use double frog hooks, worm hooks, put them on as a trailer for a buzz bait, etc.... I personally like to get a 4/0 swim bait hook that is waited with a 1/16oz weight on the hook shank and it has a twisted keeper on the eye of the hook so you can securely keep your frog set in the right place. Since these baits do not float, they are good for bringing across open water or areas with less brush.

Hollow if throwing in slop and vegetation. Both if throwing around edges or clean water. For soft frogs it's all about the leg action.

I'm just a fan of frogs in general, whether its a hollow body or buzz frog is dependent upon conditions and cover I'm fishing.

I use frogs around heavy vegetation, so hollow is where I wallow.

If I'm fishing over a lot submerged grass I like a toad style bait. Otherwise I typically stick to a hollow body frog. However, i've been known to throw either bait anywhere. It's not like one works or doesn't work under certain situations.

I like throwing a hollow body frog. I can control it and tinker with different presentations without putting on an new lure. Probably one of my favorite techniques. I'd rather throw a buzzbait than a soft plastic frog, but sometimes the soft plastic is what they want. I've gotten schooled by my partner before and had to beg for him to toss me an extra one of his soft plastic frogs.

Since these baits do not float, they are good for bringing across open water or areas with less brush. This is great information on both types of frog. The real advantage to the soft plastic styles is that there are a lot of different leg types and you can choose just how much buzz action. I use three basic frogs, The Strike King Super Toad (most action, similar to Ribbitt), The Strike King Rage Toad, and the Zoom Horny Toad (least action/subtle).
