I was just wondering how many of you do deep cranking with braid? I was thinking about trying it and compare it to fluorocarbon and co-polymer lines.

You better have the perfect parabolic action in your crankin' rod or use a heavy taper. I've only thrown deep cranks on braid at Falcon but I threw them on a PowerTackle PG104 and was snaking the bait through treetops. No deeper than about 12'

I used to do it at Falcon when all the bushes were in the water. It didn't matter what you threw though, nor did it matter what kind of line you threw. Those fish would hit a bottle on rope.

Also make sure to pick a braid with diameter of line you normally use for consistent depth. Smaller diameter equals deeper diving.

I only crank with Braid to a mono leader. Heres an older video I did about my cranking setup. I do a couple things differently now then I did back then. But this is a good starting point for you. I can constantly reach 19ft with a 6XD. If I have a little wind behind me to make my cast go even further AND if I can maintain good boat positioning I can graze 20-21ft. Hope this helps!

I still use McCoys Mean Green for smaller diameter line than mono. I have tried cranking with braid, but dislike it because of the feel I was getting. McCoys 14 is like most 12s so it is a btter fit for me. Maybe just me, but I prefer what I get because of the low memory, high abrasion resistance and a good amount of stretch. If you DO crank with braid, I would back up on my drag so a 3 #er can pull some, that way you won't rip the hooks out. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Not worth it. Get a good rod with a soft tip and learn how to feel structure and work your crank baits. You may loose a few baits but better than loosing a few fish.

I deep crank with straight 30lb braid.

I've lost a few fish for it but caught more on account of light biters. I could actually feel those bites and let it float up...they would come back and hit it again. On mono or floro I'd missed em.

Works great for crankin' brush piles.

You're not going to get your crankbait back with "Mean Green"..lol

12 lbs floro and a Power Tackle cranking rod. It's all I need.

20-30lb PP to 7ft 12lb CXX leader

Increased sensitivity-- can really feel changes in bottom composition and bites even in high winds
Works great on really long casts cough cough strolling/trolling.

I use the braid to floro leader technique. I did a little research online and there are several people that make a pretty good case for doing it that way.. including Mr Powell as shown above. I use 30lb Stren Braid and Ivivix 12lb floro with an improved Albright knot attaching the braid to the floro. I just love the feel of braid.. no question when you hit something or something hits you.
