I posted this in the carp fishing thread and got some great feedback on baits and chum, but I would like to know of some local ponds that hold carp that I can take my boys to.

Want to take my 6 year old boys carp fishing this weekend. I was hoping to get some ideas where I can catch quantity to keep two boys interested, not worried about quality. I know a few spots, but a drive away, so I was hoping to find something closer around McKinney/Frisco area. CPR only of course.

I have tried McKinney Town Lake, but caught more turtles than anything else. Lewisville Lake areas I go to are too rough on the weekends with all the jet fleas.

I dunno if the road towards Lake Lavon Dam is still closed, but I used to catch a lot of them carp on a home made dough bait down there.

You are in Mckinney. I know you said carp. But I would get a long casting combo and go the the river below Texoma. Cast towards the dam and let the little one reel them in. You might just hook into a very very nice Stripper.. Just my 2 cents. lavon would be a good choice also.

Haven't been to Lavon in a while, does anyone know if the road is open back up?

Can't think of a specific pond but 99% of them are gonna have carp o plenty.

Check bank fish map perhaps,

Scouted the carp fishing map. Just seeing if something was closer to McKinney or Frisco to take the boys.

Try LLEA under lake lewisville, tons of carp under the dam and all along the river. I've foul hooked multiple carp and buffalo there without even trying.

I don't where they are but I've heard there are a few ponds in Denton that have a lot of carp.

This may not be what you are asking to read about since you did say "ponds," but Spring Creek and Pittman Creek down by Collin Creek Mall have carp.

I've seen them from the above standing on the railroad tracks and they are big. You'd have to find your sweet spot should you choose to go there. For kids, well, a pond is probably wiser since you can just walk up to a pond and cast. Creeks sometime require some hiking.

lake ray roberts spillway, can catch them all day down there. if you take some cut bait your liable to catch gar and cats also.
and in denton you can go to the big pond at the northlake park. plenty of carp and catfish there also.

cbeathard, thank you for the advice.

North lakes: Great looking little lake. Saw the carp jumping, but had more bites from turtles and little catfish.

Ray Roberts Spillway: Kids caught 5 comman carp, 1 buffalo (15 lbs), 1 bass (3 lbs) and 1 small catfish. All on corn.
