Post the good, so post the bad. Ran down 37 screaming like Tarzan on Monday with forecast for 1'ish surf and clean water for Tuesday morning. Got to island and hit the surf for a last couple hours to look over water conditions. Saw some nice indications in an area and threw a silver spoon for a while. Picked up an 19"-20" trout that hook stuck where the hook doesn't come out. So back to the beach and finally get the hook out. Serious 10 minute battle without forceps. Duh!
Trout also amused a young man of about 8 and we did the learning stuff with his folks and him til dark. Water was looking good and forecast for variable then N winds, so fired up for the morning.
Got to the beach before 6 am and saw some good signs straight out from boardwalk. Threw topwater, had 8-10 blow ups, swirls, tail slaps from trout from 6 to 6:30'ish, one good tug but no hook ups.
6:35'ish sun hit the water and topwater bite died. Nothing anywhere for an hour. Tried silver spoon had a few hits and hooked up two Skippies. Fished til 10 with those two to show and nothing else.
Talked to couple guys fishing bait and they had 3-5 trout each using croaker with small egg weight in second gut. They said the bite was soft and they were fishing their third spot. Water was a bit heavy on the waves due to Cindy but good enough clarity. Watched the surf get rougher but clean in the afternoon, and the original plan to fish elsewhere was blown out by the water level. Wednesday morning hit the beach at 5:30 to see what was going on. Found 15-25 N wind and a surf pushing water within 3 feet of the dunes. So we had a higher than normal tide pushing water up along N & E CC bay area and a strong wind pushing water up against east shoreline, so I went back to bed, slept til 8.
Went down to surf and watched mother nature do all kinds of art work with the wind, waves, and sand. Also watch human beings do unbelievably stupid and selfish things with a surf running 15'-20' closer to the dunes. I preferred mother nature's actions. Until the next time the surf goes flat and green!
