Any of you use soft plastics for bluegill? I saw some maggot-shapped soft plastics yesterday and wondered if they'd work since I use black soldier fly maggots all the time.

I do not target sunfish but from past post that I have read Gulp Alive Maggots and Gulp Alive Night Crawlers seem to be the soft plastics of choice.

I like these little grubs for sunnies and gills. or the same setup but instead of a tail it has a skirt.

I like these little grubs for sunnies and gills. or the same setup but instead of a tail it has a skirt. I fished with a friend of mine several times over the years. He had two sons that went a long. They both were using the exact little grubs and were nailing Rios, bass, and sunnies. As for me I love the Gulp Alive Night Crawlers and the Berkley Trout Worms natural color.

I have always had great results using Gulp Alive Minnows,Maggots, and Worms. Also curly tail grubs work great.

I like the little 2" sparkly red tailed one from Bass Pro Shops. With a 1/16 oz jig head it is a killer big bluegill lure. If the fish are taking the tail off I bite the first two little bumps off the head end and shorten it a little and sometimes add a little spinner on it too. The lure is big enough that the little bitty perch can't get it in their mouth so nearly all the fish you hook are bigger ones.
You know that old saying "Some people march to the beat of a different drummer."? I don't listen to a drum at all and have meandered through life instead of marching.

Me, too, as regards my favorite: the little black grub with a curly chartreuse tail. I found mine at Walmart, made by Creme out of Tyler as I recall. Red and chartreuse works well, also. A close second would be the 3" (really looks like a 2") curly tail grub by Yamamoto . . . very good. Except, the reason it swims so well and attracts fish is it has a hyperactive tail owing to that "Senko" special plastic and a thinness at the body to tail connection. The tail tears off VERY EASILY. I went through about a half dozen in a hour but oh how the fish love them! I love them, too, but will avoid them. I am experimenting with the Elaztec GrubZ. They float a bit more and a tiger couldn't pull the tail off these! I am still experimenting with them. My favorite terminal tackle is a jig head Chris's Finesse Fishing in the .7 gram so roughly a 1/40 oz. using a #8 hook. Brad
