When you recommend a map would the GPS on my Helix unit not suffice? I believe but am not positive that the bays show up on my lakemaster card.

I'm not real excited about the shallow water and the possibility of tearing up my boat on the oysters though.

The GPS will show some information but the biggest help is the map gives you an overview of the entire area including place names that you will hear when you talk to fisherman down there. If someone tells you about Kate's hole or Brown and Root, those show up on the map. They show up on the lakeguide map but only when you drill down and get close (at least on my phone app). They also show bottom structure and suggested fishing areas during different times. I would suggest Hooknline map number 130 (confirm that covers the wade area for rockport/mustang island). www.Hooknline.net

I fish on a 14 ft piece of plastic.

Can't thank you enough for your knowledge and help. If I can ever repay you with a crappie run please let me know!

I must admit, after this thread it won't take much more for me to leave my boat at home. I'm terribly anal about my rig and its cleanliness. All this talk about oyster shells, salt water corrosion, 600 boats due to the tourney, etc. ive about been scared off!

Problem is....I'm hard headed and have to try.

No problem. I love reading those maps. I would note that the marsh areas on the map appear a lot thicker than they really are.

KQT thanks! Check out professor salt on YouTube, my latest binge watch. He kayaks out to the rigs from the beach!

Men,

Do any of you recommend a guide for the Port Aransas area? I called a few and even talked to Tails Up Guide Service about setting up a "teaching trip" for our first day down there to better understand the area.

Basically, I just want to get comfortable with where I can run and some likely areas to fish. James seemed really cool but had to check his schedule tonight before committing so I'd like to research more options. He also said he would ride in my boat which is a plus as i'll have the trail on my graph to follow which will relieve some stress of hitting underwater obstacles.
