Hey guys. I'll be down there in early August with my 16 y/o son for about 8 days. Spending some father-son quality time. Renting a place on the beach just past San Luis pass if headed west. We will mostly be doing surf fishing. Any recommendations on lures and/or baits to use. Honestly any fishing recommendations will help. it has been a little over a year since I've been in Galveston. A guide for a day or 2 of bay fishing also would be appreciated. Or if someone has a bay boat and would be willing to take us out for some fun fishing I'll split costs. I live in west texas and bass fish/bass tournament fish in lakes around here Amistad and such, so I don't get down that way to often. Thanks in advance

Gonna miss ya by a couple of days. We'll be down around the same area on the 17th-24th. Looks like you'll have favorable tide conditions. If you have a nice SE wind blowing in green water the surf is where you need to be. Find clean water with baitfish present and wade out. Live shrimp under a popping cork, plastics, gold or silver spoons and possibly topwater baits should get you bit. Plenty of places to wade fish in West Bay that are close to you. SLP on bayside across the bridge from you can be a good spot when conditions are right. If you need help with gear, tackle or anything else shoot me a PM. Look up tides4fishing and download the app. Great info there for conditions present and future forecasts.

If you wade NEAR San Luis Pass Bridge...please beware of the shifting bottom, drop offs and currents. Two have died there in 2 weeks. Your best friend is a PFD...

See above and the currents can turn on you in a hurry.

If you wants to fish conventional tackle for trout or sight fish for reds with fly rod - Steve Soule Aka The Shallowist.
