Hey so I was browsing around on the web looking at bites from these things and there's mixed results . So what kind of consequences are we talkin about here ? Pain , sick , death , skin graphs , muscle deteriation , ??? Or you Gona have a little boo boo and not feel good for a day . My little girl along with other kids play in this exact area . So I'm concerned there's not a bunch I can do to run the snakes off its a private boat ramp right on the water right next to woods .. So I'm trying to educate her a bit . As well as myself

Not trying to down play any snake bite but to me they seem to be a lesser poison than others. To me the most willing to bite you at any cost is the cottonmouth they go looking for trouble.Been coon hunting for about 50 years and had lots of hounds get a snake bite, and i think that a cottonmouth will give you all the poison he has. Had a friend got a copperhead bite and was about a week getting over it.

That's what I assumed the cotton mouth is the aggressor the rest are almost skittish I would assume . Still curious on the symptoms ? Just make you sick and not feel good ? Intense pain? Does it kill tissue and stuff like a rattle snakes venom ? What about cotton mouth bites ? What do they do as well ?

Had two neighbors in Oak Point get bit on the foot.

#1. Hospitalized for three days, numerous vials of antivenom.
#2. Overnight stay in hospital for observation, no antivenom needed.

Copper Head with my neighbor was a foot bite, some swelling, over night stay in the hospital that's about it. Now as for the copper head and the cotton mouth bites and using my hounds for a standard.I had a copper head bite a hound and a little swelling that's it. I had a cotton mouth bite a hound and had to carry him out of the woods.I don't a cotton mouth will hold back any thing/venom they give it all they have in a bite. Just my thoughts.

The babies of all venomous snakes are more dangerous FYI. They have not learned to control the amount of venom they inject so when they strike they squeeze it all out. Adults when using venom for hunting will only inject enough to kill their prey so they don't waste it, takes more energy to make new.... Sometimes snakes will even dry bite you, a strike to ward you off where they don't inject any venom.

Cottonmouth venom is stronger and they are usually larger and inject larger quantities so are more dangerous. Copperheads can rarely kill an adult but can get a child. Cottonmouths bite usually won't kill an adult but better chance. If bit you'll feel extreme burning sensation around the bite, pretty good swelling, discoloration around bite; more severe bites potential nausea blurred vision dizziness, muscle spasms or loss of use of extremity temporarily.
