Met Rob at Lofers bend little before 8am. Decided to look in that area first. As we were graphing this area Rob got out the glasses and looked around the island. He noticed a lot of egrets coming off the West bank, flying out and picking up shad, so we headed over there. As we got closer we could see a lot of comorants also and a few splashes. We rigged up top water and had a blast for about 45 minutes following large schools of fish busting top. We caught medium to large sandies and a few undersized stripes in 10 fow and we had them all to ourselves, no other boats in sight. After that died down we tried the Towash area, no luck. Headed back towards the island and stopped at a couple of humps in 40 fow. Here we got 7 keeper, pole bending stripers, biggest was 27.5". Found two large schools of picky stripers. It was hard to find a slab they would bite. After that it was hunt and peck. Find sandies, catch 2 or 3, look again. 38 on the clicker, all released.

Pole bender

This one gave me a fight

Nice work Steve. Those buffalo can really fight. I thought I had a lake record Striper on last fall, but got disappointed when I landed the thing and it was the buffalo.

Very nice Steve. I need to come down to Whitney one day and fish. I used to bass fish there a lot but that was many moons ago.

Rob was there last Saturday, maybe he will chime in with details but I think he said that it was not bad.

Weekends at Whitney can get a little crowded when the weather is good .I was there last Sat. and aboat 10:00 am .the stripers surfaced just west of the island and there were 6 boats on them in seconds. The boats spooked them and they went down. It really depends on what area you fish. The island will alway,s have some boats around it, so will the Towash and Whitney creek area.

formula462 -Hope Rob answered your question. I'll bet Texoma is worse on weekends than Whitney.

TCK73 - Me too, I thought I had a big stripe only to be disappointed.

CHAMPION FISH - Whitney is still a very good bass lake. Last summer Rob and I were having a bad day with the sandies and striper so we went up a creek arm and had a good time with the LMB. I have caught my personal best LMB on Whitney.

44Diesel - Do you think the slab bite will improve? It is our favorite way to fish if they are not on top.

Andrew Taylor - That top water bite all to ourselves was awesome. You would get 4-5 hits before hooking up. I was using a pop-r. They knocked it out of the water, broke off the front hook and chipped the paint big time.
