Hi All,

I have an 89' evinrude 100 on a 16' Stratos..

I have an intermittent problem, in where the motor runs great, but sometimes will not rev above 4500 rpm at WOT.. Then it will suddenly jump up to 5500(where it should be at WOT), or it will rev up/down.. I've had the carbs rebuilt, replaced the plugs and wires, replaced what I thought was a bad coil, and checked repaired loose grounds on the powerpack.. My thought is, I'm not losing a cylinder or it wouldn't run so well at both rpm ranges.. What could it be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

without looking at it, it almost sounds like the timing advance is sticking

engine off test, just have someone operate the throttle to wot several times and watch the timing linkage, to make sure it hits the advance stop every time
