That's just a general Creek identification map, not boat lanes...

The lake is full right now and it looks like you can run just about anywhere. But just like a horror movie, beware what lurks just inches below the surface.

I've definately experienced the 10' scenario but it was more like 4' and had the passenger not seen it we would have been seriously injured. I believe that the bouy we were by had been floating out of the boat lane.

If you RUN those "lanes" keep a go-pro video going. It'll go viral! :-)

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Here's my contribution to navigating Lake Fork. I started in early 1986 and always launched at the 515 west ramp. I had a 15' Kingfisher w- 50hp Johnson and was a pretty common size boat then. The lake was full of trees many of then still had leaves and you just ran where they weren't. If you were headed south from 515 you were more than likely running Lake Fork creek. I should say here there were no marked boat lanes or buoys. I bought a new big bass boat at the Jan. 1987 boat show and began learning in earnest my way around north to south and many of the coves. Again you just ran where there weren't any trees. Up above 154 was the hardest because it was so dense you were mostly on the trolling motor. I and most others I knew would learn trails by certain trees and even marked a lot of them especially in coves like Dale and wolf that were hard to run. As time went by and the trees began to fall running the lake became much harder. I remember one tree in the mouth of Williams that was 2' across that broke off just below the water line and lots of lower units were lost there because it marked where you made the turn to head east toward Wolf. Finally it became apparent that a marked boat line was needed because of the many tournaments, increased boat traffic, more marinas and faster boats. So the lake you see today with the boat lanes marked is a result of all the fallen timber along with the other things I mentioned. Same thing happened at Toledo Bend. You think Fork is hard to get around in you should have tried running Toledo Bend before they put in the "interstate" down there. I'm sure a lot of the 'ol timers would agree with me, it was a lot easier to navigate Fork when all the trees were still there.

There are no cleared boat lanes going into the coves below Dale

That's true but you can run Dale towards the back if you know how. None in Wolf either.

Gig-em I can remember running to the last power line up birch in the far north end. Lauching on the old 154 road bed on the east side where the public ramp is now. Spent many a night in my 79' blazer with the rear seat folded up. Those were the good ole days. Running up a tree lined birch creek. Getting lost in the cabbage patch spending about 30 minutes figuring out where I was, many years before gps.
