My new PB sunfish landed right before dark. Caught on a size 8 crawfish pattern. Played with the lighting on 2nd pic.

Very nice...and jives with my experience that big 'gills go after relatively big flies.

Thanks Chuck, Meadowlark, and Jamie. Chuck- it's just a Green/Bluegill hybrid, wish I would have had you nearby to weigh it, it was going between 1.49-1.52lbs on the Rapala digital. Meadowlark- I agree with you. My buddy was spin fishing and caught some nice sunfish on bigger lures than my fly.

Andrew a Georgia Giant is a hybrid cross between a Green Sunfish and a Bluegill Sunfish! I caught my first one on a private pond while fishing with Fred (Rionator). I thought I had a Green Hybrid and Fred explained to me it was a Georgia Giant which is a Greem/Bluegill mix. Mine was just under a pound and a half on a non certified scale. We had nothing to keep the fish alive in so I released it. Beautiful fish and full of fight. Caught it on a big Ol'Night Crawler.

Andrew a Georgia Giant is a hybrid cross between a Green Sunfish and a Bluegill Sunfish! ... Not exactly. It is a three way cross, i.e. three different species. The exact order is proprietary but goes like this...green sunfish crossed with red ear and the resulting fish is crossed with a bluegill...or some other order/combo but it involves three distinct species. I've raised them and they are an interesting fish, for sure.

Thanks Gar1970, Jagg, Hunter, Gitter Done, Wildman, Action Jackson, Dan, WillieRip, and Urban. It was the true "King of the Hole" My passion for Sunfish is only getting stronger. Evenings are my favorite times to fish, I've caught more big fish then than anytime. Wow! 11 incher. Man, that'll get you Master Angler status in Alabama. I believe it would have been a new State record if submitted. When I looked, saw some familiar names from here, #BossStatus Lets fish a creek next time I'm down South. I hear you have a great spot for Longears

I think that is a bluegill/green hybrid. I have a friend who has a lake and have caught some monsters like that while bass fishing.

Banker I should have read your reply, you already said the above. I had no idea that was what a Georgia giant was. Funny thing is my friend only stocked catfish and bluegill but the lake is overrun with 1-2 pound bass with the occasional big mixed hybrid. She could care less about the bass, just don't keep her channel cats.

I did read other articles saying Green,Bluegill. Most were the above three gene pool.

Yea I have caught a few Green/Bluegill but the one that I really wanted got off. The fish was big and I fought it good for a couple of minutes. As the saying goes. "It's the one that got away"!.
