I know it's probably not cool to admit it, but I do love the canned Ranch Style Beans.

Does anyone have a recipe for pintos that tastes like the canned version?

Thank you in advance.

Make up your pintos using salt, sugar, pepper and onion. Cook em until they're tasty but not quite finished. Then add chili powder, onion powder, and a splash on vinegar. Finish them, correct the seasoning and enjoy. Or, try this...

Big cast iron skillet
Few slices bacon diced in on medium high heat
Couple diced maters in w bacon bits
Couple chopped onions in
Lotsa minced garlic or garlic powder in
Couple chopped Hatch chilies in

Cook the heck out of it, almost burn the bacon.

Big stock pot
Empty skillet into pot
Add washed dry Pinto beans after 5 minute boil and one hour soak
Add water
High heat, rapid boil

Keep the water level high, you're making Al's Bean Soup. Rapid boil until beans soften up, correcting seasoning as you go. You can add Ranch seasoning if you want to ranch it up. This is good stuff, from Al, of La Familla.

I made chili beans last night but I can't really tell you a recipe. Soak the beans minimum overnight or a couple days in the fridge depending on when you get around to making them. Seasonings I grab are garlic powder, diced onion, chili powder, ancho chilies, chipotle chilies, cumin, black pepper, and meaty ham bone or something like a good smoked beef rib bone. If it's a ham bone, I always save the skimmed drippings and some of the skin to throw in. Ranch style has tomato sauce in it and a little brown sugar.

I guess I ate too many years ago ... I still will eat, but not overly fond of ranch style beans compared to other types.

I mixed some pintos cooked fairly plain with some cheap canned chili and it was pretty close...

Ranch style beans, BBQ, some chopped up franks and a loaf of white bread is the ultimate gourmet meal of any trailer park.

X 3. I still eat them though, however I sound like an air boat with open headers after eating a can of them!

Pinto Beans Ingredients In () ingredients for 2 lbs. beans
(2) 4 pounds pinto beans, picked over and rinsed
(1/2) 1 pound bacon (or salt pork), chopped
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
(1) 3 tablespoons chili powder
( 1 tablespoon Molasses) 2 tablespoons sugar
(1) 2 tablespoons salt
(1) 2 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper
1 (12-ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chiles
(0) 1 whole jalapeno pepper
Directions
Presoak overnight or place beans in a large pot with a tight-fitting cover and add enough water to cover beans by about 2 inches. Bring to a boil over high heat. Meanwhile, place bacon, onion, and garlic in a medium cast iron frying pan and brown the mixture, while stirring, over medium heat. Add bacon mixture to beans. Reduce heat and simmer until beans are soft, about 3 hours total cooking time, adding more hot water if needed. Add chili powder, sugar, salt, pepper, diced tomatoes with green chiles, and jalapeno pepper. Simmer for another 10 minutes and then serve.
