Huh? Is this a new change to the Federal season/rules?

*edit* Nevermind, I found it. Boy, I hope TPWD is able to get this news out to Texans who might want to fish red snapper in state waters this summer. Would suck to get ticketed for catching red snapper out of Port Mansfield on a Thursday!!

There's a very involved discussion on another forum about this change. For me as a kayak fisherman, it will significantly decrease my snapper options which were already limited to begin with. Not only do we have to wait for a good weather window but now it has to be fri-sun. Personally I don't trust the feds on this. I can't decide if this is a capitulation because of the State actions or a strategic move to force States in line with fed policy. Sure, we get 29 or 30 extra days this year. I bet next year the feds will say to get the extra days states have to commit to fed policy for 5 years. Then the seasons will start shrinking again.

I fish on a 14 ft piece of plastic.

Next year will be zero days. That has been expected by the recreational sector all along and had no small part of the reason this happened. What a lot of folks aren't picking up is that this is a big slap in the face for Crabtree and the Gulf Council. They need a lot more slapping due to all of the slapping they have given us over the past 15 years or so.

The EDF and their cronies are already protesting this extension saying it will be a huge setback for the recovery of the fishery by 2032. LOL .... never mind the fact that we can't catch anything else bottom fishing but red snapper now.

What a joke this has become under federal management.
