Just 5 ft. I can't say I like folks shooting them, but if they get some value out of them.....it is a little different. I wish all the big alligator gar were catch and release!

Wow do you tan the hide like leather or dry it like rawhide

No, it goes into the same degreasing preservative as every fish. But they have a fishy odor to them. Other fish have a very mild odor after the soak. I'm going to mold the head and the front half for a shoulder mount, so right now I don't want it completely dry. I mold the inside of the mouth so I use a molded tongue,etc. it dries faster that way.

Update! I decided to mold the front 1/3 of the fish for shoulder mounts. So I had a slight delay!!!!

Things are rolling again. Getting ready to attach the pecs and pelvs and start painting. I'll have another update in a week or so on completions!

She will be completed this week. I've added the fins, all the mouth detail and put a base coat of paint on her. I had a special mount welded that I have to pickup today. Completed photos forthcoming!
