For me at least the bigger fish, 8#'s or more, the bites are very subtle, many times you will think you felt something kind of and set the hook for good measure and you will have a toad on there. I mix and match colors but stick with the basics for the most part. I am becoming a football jig snob, I prefer to throw one on an NRX 7'1" HVY, (854), with a super smooth reel and a spool of 20# floro without a blemish in the line anywhere. The bites are subtle, and I want to feel everything, frog fishing has always been my favorite way to catch them, but if you are hunting for bigger fish, there is nothing better in my humble opinion. Everything in this post...x2, excellent description and I use the same setup. Every DD I've caught on jig, I was barely able to feel the bite, and a few of them just started swimming with it. Never felt the "tick".

Same as guy above but I use a 893. I catch fish on them all the time. All my big fish but 3 came on them. The subtle hits I'm still trying to figure out. lol I lost 5higs yesterday alone. I throw them a lot. But I caught a 7/5 /4 and few 3.5s yesterday.

I really like Missile Bait's Ike's Head Banger jig. Seem to hang up less, especially in rocks. Peanut butter and jelly color with green pumpkin Rage Bug trailer. Almost exclusively use 3/4 oz size.

Good Thread ... I just placed an order for several Santone jigs ... been wanting a smaller hook for easier penetration ... couldn't find one until this thread and Santone's finesse jig with a 3/0 hook was what I wanted.

3\4 oz football MOP jig by buckeye lures. Living rubber skirt stands straight up and put a hart rattle chunk with floating claws. Looks like a defensive crawdad. We all no what bass do to them crawdads! Mash on em! Best football jig in my opinion.

I tried them years ago and for me they seemed to hang up more than other football head jigs. I now use V&M, Santone, and MPack.
