I live on Cedar Creek and Know it well. Was planning a Trip to Lavon. From what I can tell, its a completely different monster from my home lake. No Docks. Submerged Timber.

Any thoughts or ideas where to start?

I'm no pro at Lavon but it is a simple lake for the most part. I'm sure Ranger1 hooked you up in the PM. My only advise is fish the rocks anywhere you find them with some good water depth nearby.

Drag T-rigs/C-rigs around isolated timber/stumps. Crankbaits and jigs on riprap (railroad bridge > dam). No docks but the marinas do hold some pretty big fish, especially East Fork. The tires by Collin Marina are usually good for a couple easy fish. If you're feeling a little risky the water intakes are usually good for some fish but don't get caught roflmao. East side has all the rip rap, west has always produced better for me when fishing timber because the ground seems a little harder.
Disclaimer: used to live a mile from Lavon and fished it 5 days a week and won a few tournaments on it, however I moved to Houston and haven't been on it in a few years so things may have changed.

You're starting your pre-fishing early for this one! roflmao Lots of 4-7 pound fish in Lavon. Going to take a good sack to get a check.

I will be fishing Lavon a bunch this summer...can not wait! Bringing my boat home from Fork.

What is the safest and best place to run out of or launch?

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Not really sure there is a safe place around Lavon. LOL I always put in at Collins myself.

Launch @ eastfork if it's open. They had it closed for a while.

You can run around the lower end safely. Along the pockets and coves on the north banks of the lower end there is timber, but the main lake on the lower end is open.

West arm if you go north of collin park and don't know what you are doing, idle.
East arm is a lot more open until you get up a good ways n of tickey point.
Tickey creek idle if you arent familiar with it.
If you go under the RR bridge back to mallard, idle if you aren't familiar with it. You can run the N bank back there but its just a 5 minute idle if you want to be sure the first time.

East Fork West Ramp is now open. Marina ramp is still closed (road to ramp still needs to be repaired). Many ramps on the lower end are currently closed for repairs. You can check the USACE website for the current status of all parks and ramps.
