Yesterday morning I made a quick two hour trip before attending the memorial service of a dear friend. As I started my morning (to clear my head)I noticed that the fish were very lightly tapping the Thermocline Lil' Fry in Go To Greenie. I heard my friends voice in my head saying switch to a larger bait. So the next offering was the Mr. Fry in Black Emerald Shiner. Wouldn't you know it the fish started hitting a little more aggressively. She spoke again and said go bigger. So, I switched to the 3" Magnum Tadpole in Silver Flash/Chartreuse. I reversed the normal color scheme and put the chartreuse on top. What do you know, those fish started hammering it. All were rigged with 1/8th oz. unpainted heads dropped down to about 12ft in 17-19fow. I missed/lost several fish at the boat because I think the #4 hooks were a little small for the bigger baits. I need to order some with #2 or 1 hooks. I know that Ernest uses a very large bait with success to catch crappie. My thinking is that with a smaller offering the fish don't have to be aggressive in their feeding. They just have to open their mouth and get the water flowing through their gills and the bait just flows into their mouths. With the larger bait they have to be a little more aggressive in order to get the larger bait in their mouth. Not a bad trip for a 2hr trip.

Two weeks ago was when Kaitlynn and I made our trip up to Palestine to fish with Mark. As I was dropping Kaitlynn off outside of Temple I received a call from the mother of a dear friend. She notified me that they had moved Alice to hospice care and that she was not expected to live much longer. Needless to say the remaining 3hr drive home seemed like an eternity. Sunday morning God told me to make the trip to Pearland to see Alice. She passed away on Wednesday May 31st. Being the country girl she was Alice would have approved of a short 2 hour trip in the morning before her service. Don't let the red lipstick and beauty fool you. Alice was a lady who grew up in the country and could handle a cow, horse, firearm or fishing rod with the best of them. She could also change her own oil and I'm sure could tear and engine down and rebuild it if she needed too. There wasn't much she couldn't do. She tackled cancer head on and fought the good fight to the end. Thanks for the memories (And fishing tips yesterday) my sweet and lovely friend. Rest in Peace til we meet again

Cancer sucks (have lost several extended family members to different forms of it and had Melanoma removed myself).

I'm sorry for your loss, but I appreciate the beautiful memory you wrote for her. She's up in God's kingdom now fishing and doing all those same things, like my father, cousins, and others with a big smile on her face.

Thanks for sharing and so happy she spoke to you in spirit to help ya land some nice ones! God bless..

Thanks for the kind replies. She was a very special friend with a kind and giving heart. She will be missed. I keep telling myself that we didn't lose her, we know exactly where she is at, living eternally with no pain and sporting those new wings and that golden halo accented with red lipstick.
