Some good boats within 3-4 hours of my location. How doable is it to get said boat to a shop for a look over?

If you can't find em wind em.

Prob easiest to get them to take the boat to a shop "near them" as opposed to hauling it down to a shop near you. I'd do some google searching and see which ones rate best. Also prob wouldn't trust one they recommended "if" you had any concerns about their intent. You could offer to split the cost of the look over with them perhaps? Good luck with the search!

Boat my boat 4 hours away, we met at his house, hooked up the boat, went to a mechanic near him, that checked out then went to the lake, then the bank!

I have bought a boat from a guy in Louisiana for the motor. I have a compression checker, so I checked the compression and left with the boat. I still run that Merc today.

I bought a Skeeter from an Air Force guy in Fort Walton Beach Fl. Off craigslist. My wife and some of her friends happened to be down there and they drove over to look at it and kinda check out the individual. He had a compression and hour check done and gave her the printout. Met me in Jackson MS and would not let me buy it without driving it first and doing a visual inspection.
Really a stand up guy. Had 74 hours and a brand new MK Fortrex on it. That was over three years ago and no issues at all.
