I was wondering if anyone local has had the chance to fish any of the clear fork near abilene. Was thinking of putting the kayaks in and trying it out one of these weekends. Just wondering if there's any good crappie or bass fishing to be done there. Thx

I haven't done that in nearly 30 years, your question brings back good memories. There used to be great crappie fishing in deep holes and brush, small bass too. Catfishing can be fun too, not as the sit and wait way, but casting a gob of worms or blood bait, or even better live grasshoppers, in behind rocks, logs, or brush into eddies in current. I couple of pound channel cat nailing that moving bait is great fishing and the way many old timers used to do it. My Granddad and them used fly rods to cast those grasshoppers. Russell Tinsley used to write about that kind of fishing in Texas Fish and Game Magazine.

Hope you can get some more specific, current information, but in any case good luck too you.

The Clear Fork up by Anson was my secret place to catch big cats on grasshoppers. But as above, that was a long time ago.

My grandparents used to live in Anson. Some of my favorite childhood memories were running limb lines with him on that little river. We would Seine red horse minners from some local tanks, or perch and bait them up. Thinking about it still brings back the sounds and smells from those days. I still have a bundle of my grandfathers limb lines in the attic. He is buried at the Hamlin cemetery right up the road from there. His funeral procession even did a u-turn at the river. Good times.......but it's been at least 35-40 years since I fished there.
