Was having dinner (actually my birthday dinner) with my daughter and son-in-law at the Fish House at BPS and the three of us were checking out the prices on the Nitro bass boats after dinner. Here's the price of the Z-20 on the showroom floor- $58,000 and some change. You can finance it with 10% down and payments of $372 per month for 240 months. Quick math looks like this- $5800 down plus $372 x 240 = $89,280 for a grand total of $95,080. Wonder how many fall for this deal. Surely the salesman explains to a potential customer the final cost. And then I started wondering, are the Rangers, Skeeters, Phoenix, etc. financing the same way ? Twenty years ? Are you kidding me ? Are folks really doing this ?

Your post should be titled.....The High Costs Of Financing-WOW

Their boat prices are in line with some other boats and actually less than most. It is really all about paying interest on a loan regardless of the manufacturer. But I realize in your example you were actually looking at a Nitro. It will cost you quite a bit more if you finance some other boats! Also depends on amount financed, interest rate, length of loan term. Buy a good used boat and either pay cash or make down payment and finance for 36-48 mths.

Thank you sir, every minute I spend with my loved ones are special and always happy to have another birthday. Glad I don't have a 20 year mortgage on a boat too.

How do you think so many people can afford those big ol' bass boats that turn them into pros? Your average 21ft bass boat gets about 35K in interest on top of the boat price over 20 years. Or you could finance it for 7 like a longer vehicle loan, and make $1000 payments every month. That's if you get a decent interest rate. (4%-10% on average non credit union bank)

Bought a new Bass Cat once but only financed it for 2 years and paid it off early. Paid cash for all my boats since. Paying interest to me is like smoking cigarettes, harmful to your health. Paying interest on a home is a different horse and understandable. I would hate to think what a $75.000 Ranger or Skeeter would end up costing.

We must be in a new age and time because yes they are doing stupid chit like this, Ive seen 2 neighbors do something like this just this year, both guys in mid 30s with familys, trucks etc, one of them last week almost had his satellite tv unhooked cause he was late according to his wife lol BUT he sure has a nice new Bass Cat in the driveway.

True Stompy, it adds up and most, including myself never stop and add up the final cost of a home but it's where I raised my family and gave them a place to call home. It's totally different with a bass boat. Don't get me wrong I enjoy my boat and love to fish but I ain't financing one for 20 years. Maybe 4-5 but not 20. My skeeter is paid for and I can catch just as many as I could from a $75,000 Ranger.
