I know when I was a kid we went with a guide on Texoma for stripers, when we caught a keeper the guide knocked in the head with a hammer and threw it in the cooler. We had a limit of 7-10lb fish in short order, then 12-16lb fish started coming up and the dead 7s were thrown back into the lake. This type of fishing lead to changes at Texoma in the 90s because the striper population took such a hit. Very sad practice, remember how upset my dad was.

To clear up any confusion, I just wanted to net the floaters to get a perspective of how bad it was but after spending 20 min netting them up I felt I had enuff to get a photo. All fish that were over 10 inches were kept and the rest were thrown back in the water upcurrent of the crappie hole so maybe they could see the damage they were doing. No laws were broken by anyone just bringing light to us needing to better educate and open eyes to what we are doing.

Right, but if they are above legal length? Is it then legal?

Besides catfish, isn't pole and line only legal harvest method.

This is right out of the TPWD Freshwater Rules and Regulations:

Dip Net

A dip net is a mesh bag suspended from a frame attached to a handle.
Legal only for taking NONGAME fish and other aquatic animal life including crabs, crayfish, and shrimp.
May be used to aid in the landing of fish caught by other legal devices.
In SALT WATER, nongame fish may be taken for bait purposes only

So it does look as though this rule was broken. Note: I didn't make NONGAME all caps. It came right out of the TPWD website that way.

I believe that is talking about taking live fish.

Short fish are short fish and should not be in possession.

I get his point though.

Weeellll, i sure rather have a lake full of whites and crappie than those things.

I rue the day they ever started putting them in Buchanan. Before that, since the 50's, I would at times see schools of whites that seemed like they covered and acre or more. No more.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

To each his own, until there's no more.

some people can't afford all the latest technology.
