 Helix 9 or 10 Ram Mount

I'm considering moving to a Helix 9. I'd like to know if anyone is running the 9 or 10 with a 1.5" ball (size C) Ram mount. I know they make a 2.25" ball version (size D) that's designated for it, but seems like it may not be necessary to me and I'd prefer not to switch for several reasons.

I had a Humminbird 1197c on a 1.5" ball and it would not hold it in rough water. Had to go to the 2.25"

There are a lot better mounts out there than the Ram.

If you are gonna mount it at the console I would use the ram swing arm mount. I had a helix 12 on mine and like it a lot. As Bob said I would stay away from the ball mounts with that size unit. I have had ram, Balzout and Cisco and prefer the ram swing arm mount at the console and the Cisco mount for the bow

Really was hoping not to change it out, but I don't want to lose it in rough water either. I'll look into the other brands. Thanks

What kind of boat is going on? Had a custom console mount made by Sherms Marine called the Sherm's Mount (for Bass Cat boats). Pretty sweet! I can get you picture if you want. Also none of the bolt patterns on the Ram ball mount will line up with the Helix pattern had to modify it to make it work. Still didn't use it. I'll set it to you cheap...

Precision sonar mounts are great if you want to spend the added money. Very durable and won't fall down in rough water like the ball mount ram mounts. Had them on my old boat, and didn't care for them at all!

The Helix 9,10, and 12 all have the same case and weight. It needs the larger mount.

There are RAM ball mounts that match the Helix gimbal holes, I have one for the Helix 7 and Helix 12. The Helix 7 size works with the Helix 5 and the Helix 12 size works with the Helix 9 and 10. The D size also fits the SOLIX gimbal and directly on the back of the unit. RAM 202 24 and RAM 202 25
