Willie you should add some sturdy rod holders and drag a few rigs behind you with jumbo baits on them. Have fun hand lining eaters while waiting for a whale to drag you and your boat around..... Has to be some giants in there somewhere.

Blues, yeah, there are big cats in these waters. I gave up rod and reel because I wanted a simpler setup.

Use some trot line rope and drag 10+ inch baits? I wanna see Willie catch a monster!! Lol

Blue, hehe! Now you're talking! In saltwater they run 200 to 300 lbs mono. That'd be the next step. At least going from the 30 lbs backing > 27 lbs leadcore > 20 Lbs mono shock leader to 50 lbs > 45 lbs > 40 lbs. That would essentially double the strength on my setup.

Note the current Alabama state blue catfish record was caught on only 40 lbs line http://www.outdooralabama.com/blue-catfish-state-record-shattered The stronger setup listed above is well capable of some trophies. I need to make a new reel. I think I might rig it for some trophies.

I was thinking it right before you said it, you have some pretty hands Willie.

Which dam is that? I went Saturday and did quite well below Guntersville. Two guys were in a boat like yours and fishing close to one of the release gates. They had caught three blues, all over 25lbs each. Bait was hand sized live perch. For them it was catch and release, they just like catching big fish.

Fishin', yeah I went out on the Full Moon on Thursday. That's when that film was made. This was below Bankhead dam.

Jimbo, that's exactly why I quit rod and reel: too many broke rods. After spending an entire winter building rods, they'd break. That made me so mad that I quit rod and reel fishing altogether and started handlining.
