I posted the below in another freshwater forum a few months ago. Thought I would re-post here and be a little more specific with my question.
Of these three boats how does there ride compare in rough water? I suspect the following.
- Ranger rides and plows water like a battleship. It's 10 MPH slower and a wetter ride. - Bluewave is lighter by almost 1/3 so its fast, but you don't have the stiffness / solid feel of a heavier boat. Rides rough in heavy chop. - Triton is more like the ranger, but it's hull allows it get out of the water so you get a drier ride and its a bit faster than Ranger. Said differently its somewhere between the Ranger and Bluewave.
To me the weight difference in the boat says to me that the hulls are thicker and stiffer in the ranger and triton. If you talk to BW they probably would agree, but argue that their hand laid fiberglass hull is lighter and just as strong. Ok, but how does this translate during a rough ride. Also, I haven't heard anyone complaining about their BW.
Thoughts anyone?

Thicker fiberglass or a heavier hull doesn't necessarily make for a better ride. More dead rise and a narrower beam will over come the weight and make for a better ride in the rough stuff. Trade off of more dead rise is it will generally draft more. In the case of the three you listed they all show between 12-13" draft but Triton is the only one who list dead rise. The Ranger only list an inch more draft then the BW. Its also narrower and heavier which indicates it more then likely has the least dead rise of the bunch.

without question, the Ranger has the best ride. i have a 22 Pathfinder and my nephew has a 22 Ranger and the ranger is superior in ride, layout and overall craftsmanship. if we fish skinny, we take my boat, but if we're running the bay or going offshore, we take the Ranger. everything from the hinges and gas shocks to the gelcoat finish is better on the Ranger. now that Bass Tracker has the production of the Ranger, i'm curious as to weather the quality will go down.

I have been researching the heck out of this very subject, and have scratched everything off my list except Robalo. I spent several hours last weekend crawling all over the 226 and 246 Cayman. I am 99% decided on the 246 based on my intended use. I will be water testing each in two weeks and will report back. I am not sure where you are located, but there is the summer boat show next weekend in Houston at the NRG center... Lots of fiberglass there. FWIW...I scratched Blue Wave for the very reasons you stated, just too light for non-prime conditions.

were you looking at the new blue wave or the old blue wave?
What's your intended use is? If you're riding the big bay and going off shore you're probably making the right decision. Have you looked at the Dargel KDX 25 or ShallowSport X3? totally different style boats but while go off shore and can be used on the flats. just an idea, not trying to hijack anything.
