Yep. I assume you are primarily talking about Bass. Other fish have a HIGHER ability to detect Scents/Attractants. (Catfish, Salmon, Trout, SHARKS, etc) BUT Bass do respond to Scents/Attractants. There are different reasons people use them. They can be used as a COVER Scent to help mask the bad odors you get from Gas, Cigarettes, Oi, Grease, Under Arm SPRAY, etc. Some People use them as LUBRICANT to help their baits slip/slide through grass. Others use them as the Attractant. We have many many reports over the years that the fish will "hold on" longer to a bait, allowing the angler to have a better opportunity to feel the fish. ESPECIALLY in finicky situations or when it is hard to feel the fish. If you consider the cost of an attractant vs the cost of lures it is an inexpensive option to use. Remember that when fish "attack" a bait they are attracted by the vibrations (Lateral line), flash/color/shape (Visual) and also the scent of the baits. Especially when they get close. Bass will often trail a bait but turn away at the last moment. Scents can help to convince the Bass to commit to the attack. Are they SMART enough to put it all together??? Not really. BUT they are creatures of habit and have natural senses that they rely on to help convince them something is real or (in our case) faked attempt to fool them that it is real! There is NO blanket scent flavor that works all the time. Scents can be SEASONAL. For example: We have noticed that the Shad flavor tends to be better during "shad" forage seasons. (Summer/Fall) The Crawfish works good when that is a strong forage base. Etc. There are some flavors that do tend to work all season long, (Garlic, or Java), but the specific ones can really work better in certain situations. The best thing to do is just try it. It won't hurt! It's an inexpensive long lasting product for the money and can be used on all of your favorite baits. What have you got to loose? Good Luck!!! The only fish attractant I use is BANG. Been using it for a long time and it just works for me.

Stay with the natural scents for all the above reasons. The more pure the extract the better. I have had great results with these natural extracts in Minnow - Night Crawler and Crayfish. Bass do like Garlic and the Craylic fits that bill with Crayfish and Garlic mix.

Bass like it wife / girlfriend may think your cheating on her, hard to wash off.

I have been using Donald Harper's Night Crawler and Craylic with GREAT success. They hang on a LOT longer and let you set the hook. The first T I fished this year, they were just hitting the bait and not hanging on. Put Night Crawler in the bag and they started hanging on. Won two of the next Ts to prove it, too. Hope this helps. Have read that fish can smell water based scents, but not oil based scents, yet all scent products seem to be oil based. Can anyone explain this??????

I have been using Smelly Jelly for as long as I can remember. Used to go through about 3 to 4 containers a year when I was fishing a lot. Now I am probably still on one I bought probably 5 or more years ago. Guess it is still good. I still use it sometimes when I want to fool with it. I started using the Chartreuse Garlic Spike It pens now most of the time that are not messy to deal with.

Not necessarily true. Natural Fish and Forage are also OIL based in themselves. Where do you think FISH OILs come from? It is a misconception that they can't smell/taste the oils. They eat bait with oils all the time. The waterbased formula's will wash off and have to be reapplied very frequently. The oil based ones do not. (AND many of the waterbased ones keep CHANGING their formulas's.) (Wonder why???? ) With our Kick'n Bass formula's we have a special process that allows our all natural oil based formulas to be readily processed and "tasted/smelled" by the fish. We like to think that "ALL NATURAL" is better for the fish than "ARTIFICIAL" Lab derived mixtures.
Everybody questions "Why, How, When, etc" but it is really a simple answer. JUST TRY IT! If it doesn't work then you are using the wrong one!

I use Bondo, laquer thinner, Diet Coke, whatever is on my hands at the time. Sometimes it's stabil, or unleaded....

I feel like this....if scents made a bait better, then Yamamoto, Zoom, and Gene Larew wouldn't stand a chance against the Berkley Powerbaits of the fishing world and would HAVE to include it in their products.
