The "touch" function on my lowrance 9 Gen 2 touch stopped working today. The unit powers on but is nonfunctional as the screen does not respond to touch. Does anybody have any experience with this? Any thoughts on where to get it repaired, short of sending the unit in to Lowrance?

You'll have to google or YouTube search how to do these because I don't recall the exact procedures.
Try a screen calibration.
Try a soft reset and if it still doesn't work, try a hard reset. Note that a hard reset will delete all wypts, trails and settings on the graph. It's a last resort, but will most likely fix the issue. If it doesn't....pray you're still in warranty.
Lowrance will not fix the graph if you're out of warranty, they do NOT repair graphs anymore. They do have a 5 year upgrade program though.

To calibrate, press and hold the waypoint key during the power on process. You will then be taken to a 9 point calibration screen.
Soft Reset HDS units (does not delete user data) --turn unit OFF --press and hold the PAGES button --press and release the POWER button --release all buttons when the HDS logo appears.
Hard Reset HDS units (deletes stored user data such as waypoints and trails) Back up your files to a SD card first!
--turn unit OFF --press and hold both the ZIN and ZOUT buttons --press and release the POWER button --release all buttons when the HDS logo appears.

Another good procedure to store on your phone is how to adjust brightness. On more than one occasion, I've had a unit power up, but at minimum or near-minimum screen brightness. If this happens to you, you'll need to know what buttons to push to blindly get to the brightness adjustment and raise it. I got out of this bind once by cloaking myself under multiple rain-jackets to create a dark environment where I could see the very dim screen.
I've started to gather PDF format documents of all of my boat-related manuals to be stored on a tablet taken aboard the boat. I hate taking paper manuals as they always/eventually end up damaged from moisture. Remember some smaller Android devices are as little as ~$50 these days.....
Bonus: You can easily create PDFs of fishing notes to be included on the tablet for reference.....

Flipster, I almost threw my graph in the water one day when I thought it had broken. Turns out it was turned down all the way from a previous evening. Here's what someone told me and I had no clue about this, press the POWER button with a few quick presses and the brightness changes through different settings. I felt like an idiot that I had never heard that one before, makes it a lot easier though.

My manual references brightness with the power button a couple of times. Alternative to carrying a tablet or whatever extra device, .pdf files (manuals) can be stored on the Gen 3 units for reading on the water. I think this might be true for G2 also but I don't recall. I have all the reference docs on my units for easy availability. I save them to the micro card to minimize impact to the unit's storage/memory.
