This is my dad's new 2017 Lund 16V (not sure the exact model). I was out with him yesterday and his side imaging doesn't look good. The left side of the boat shows about 15-20' then is black shadow (this tells me the transducer isn't level?). Also, when he is on plane the boat throws up a mini-rooster tail arch that nearly shoots water into the back of the boat. Here are the pics of the transducer install. I am thinking it needs to be raised (to not cause water to spray up) and then leveled so he gets a better SI picture. The transducer is lower lower on the boats left's side (looking at the transducer like in the pic). Would it also be better to be mounted more towards the keel versus on the outside like it is now? I appreciate any help.

The installation instructions show for a V bottom to have 1/2 of the transducer thickness below the hull on the lowest side. That means the other side will mostly be below the hull bottom.

Since it is Side Imaging, it has to be able to "see" to the sides. It can do that best being low as possible on the transom (near the keel). Humminbird's SI covers from the water's surface to past vertical under the transducer on both sides. It will "see" the engine mount a lot more were it is than if it was closer to the keel.

May have to put a spacer between the mount and transom to get clearance past the drain.
I would suggest the Transducer Shield and Saver Spring Back Bracket for that.
The transducer is the Compact SI that comes with the Helix 5, 7, and 9 Side Imaging units as well as the 899ci HD SI Combo and all the smaller number series SI units.
The unit will product sharper images with the HDSI transducer.

Have to trim out the outboard when scanning at idle speed to get clearance for the left side SI pulse.

That transducer comes with a rooster tail plug for the mount. Looks like it is installed, can't really tell.

Wayne, thank you sir. So, basically everything about this installation is wrong then? This is a brand new boat. I guess he needs to contact the dealer and have them reinstall the transducer under warranty. Is there a diagram that shows mounting location on a V bottom?

Yes,it was in the box with the unit, then you combine that with common sense for the transducer type/technology.

Lots of installation photos on Bass Boat Central.

You need an installer that is familiar with Side Imaging.
