I'm going to be renting a place on Lake Conroe next week and plan to spend most of my time chasing catfish. Does anyone have any pointers on how deep they are right now? I'm assuming that they have moved deeper with the water temp being close to 80. I'll be running the lake on my 25' Pontoon boat and mostly staying south of the 1097 bridge and over by Scott's Ridge.

I'll be fishing with a Buddy from Kentucky that's an avid catfish guy. He consistently pulls in 20-50lb monsters out of the Ohio river and fishes in tournaments almost every weekend. I'm hoping to at least keep him entertained while we're out there, but neither of us know much about fishing on Conroe.

Also, what's the best place to buy bait? I hear good things about April Sound Bait & Tackle, but they're not directly on the water. I'll be staying in Walden. Is there any place with a better selection than Einstein's in Walden Marina?

There are a couple of bait places around, but not many. April Sound Marina is on the water and has shiners, but I think that's about it. There's a place called Benny's on 1097 (not on the water and their prices aren't great) and another place in New Waverly called The Minnow Bucket.

I haven't fished for cats recently, but usually you can catch them on the 1097 bridge or on baited holes on standing timber around the Scott's Ridge area. If it's windy, stay off the main lake, it can get pretty brutal out there.

The Fish Lake Conroe Facebook page is also a good place to find out where they're catching them right now.
