Hello, I'm trying to plan an offshore fishing trip as a gift for a few kids that just graduated high school. I'm targeting July 13th for Snapper season but the hard part is choosing a experienced guide so I don't waste $1200 and a days fishing. I'm hoping some of you may have a recommendation on good, affordable guides in the Port Aransas area. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you can manage the drive, you can get into good state waters red snapper fishing out of Port Mansfield.

there's plenty of good state spots holding gobs of sow snapper right now
from POC on down.
Hilton & his people have been putting down thousands of pyramids this year,
not to mention a couple new shipwrecks......
saw guys catching red snappers (& lanes) off the end of the jetties in port A just 2 months ago.
they're everywhere.......

Better check the season. Snapper may be over before then.

Red Snapper season ends July 19 for head boats and charter boats.

An option would be to take them out on a head boat for a 5 hr trip for red snapper.

I do those on a semi regular basis on the Pelican at DSH. They are $75 PP

Any guide worth a darn will be able to find you red snapper to catch. If a guide cant find red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico they must be blind or really stupid. The real question is what do you want to catch after the snapper? If your only goal is red snapper then a party boat is the most cost friendly option and you should be able to catch a few extra fish of various species for $100 per person or maybe a little less. All of the big boat companies (Deep Sea Headquarters, Dolphin Docks, and Fishermans Wharf) will be good options for party boats. If you want to customize your trip for other species like vermillion snapper or kingfish in addition to your red snapper then a private guide that maxes out at 6 people might be what you are looking for. That WILL run you in the $1200 range. Some of those that have already spoken up can recommend a good guide for you, I don't know the local guides as well. To help us out can you tell us what your budget is and if snapper is your main goal or are you looking to catch a bunch of other fish in addition to snapper. One last thing...If you are looking for a private guide you had better book them FAST! They might all be booked for that week!

Hey Lite=Liner! Hows it been going? You gonna be ready for some offshore again this season? I'm back from the cancer fight that had me feeling like death last season and ready to roll...well once the dang weather cooperates.
