A man jumped into Lake Arlington and never resurfaced this evening. Search efforts underway.
Not looking good.

The man could be the most excellent swimmer. Read my first post on this thread.

I never could understand why Good swimmers were drowning until I had my own first hand experience with my body which had been baking in the Hot Texas Sun came into contact with that cool water and my muscles immediately constricted to the point that I could not kick my legs. It was an eye opening experience that I will never forget.

I don't have all the details on tonight's event.

He could have hit an object under the water or experienced something like I did.
Was alcohol or drugs a factor?

I like to swim just like many of us probably do, but with this heat jumping into water after your body has been baking in the sun is flirting with danger. Unless it's a swimming pool with a lifeguard your flirting with danger.

I frankly would not go into water unless you could stand up at the moment in it.
If the water is any deeper please wear a life jacket. Even if your a strong swimmer.
Wear it please.

Sounds like another totally preventable loss of life may have just occurred this evening.

Be safe.

UPDATE: Body has been found. Tragic. Prayers to the family.

SARG your perfectly entitled to your opinion. We are gonna have to agree to disagree.

My wife and son are both First Responders and deal with this stuff on a daily basis.

Sure there may be a rare case here or there that aligns with your logic/statement above.

I can say that many more lives are saved wearing them (Seatbelts/Life Jackets) than not.

It's a Free Country if you don't want to wear a Seatbelt or Life jacket by all means then don't.

Feel Free to type in Seatbelt Commercial in you tube. Pop some popcorn and enjoy.

Well said. Most Club tournaments disqualify team members and boats that do not have life jackets on before the engine is started.

Using the site for a while...this is really great to share fishing ideas and success with others.

I can respect that position/reasoning
BUT!
There is but one God in my world and death of mortality only comes with permission.
The only one that saves lives is Jesus Christ
Fear is a Spirit and all the seatbelt a PFD's on the planet cant change my mind on what reality actually is.
Nothing on this mortal earth can save a mortal life without permission.

The "GIFT" of Life is Priceless.

There is a "JOINT RESPONSIBILITY" in preserving it.

(Eat properly, Drive Responsibly, Boat Responsibly, Exercise/Stay Active, Wear Your Seat Belt, Wear Your Life Jacket...stuff like that).

When it's my time to go I'll go.

But in the mean time I don't need to speed up my departure by not being a responsible adult and fulfilling my joint responsibility in helping preserve my own life.

I wonder if you could interview and ask those who are no longer with us if they would have done anything different. Like wearing a LIFE jacket.

Just my humble opinion.

Your perfectly entitled to yours.

Like I said we can agree to disagree.

Hogan, I totally support your ideas. As a first responder I've performed CPR on children -unsuccessfully- and it is a terrible experience. As a sailor I've had young guys, strong swimmers, jump from my boat and then panic when they realized they overestimated their ability. Fortunately we got to those in time, but it always happens at unexpected times.

Getting an inflatable PFD has been on my list of things to get. My dad was always on me about wearing one when I went fishing since I am by myself 90% of the time. Your post reminded me to "get it done". So, last night after taking my mom out for what would have been their 66 wedding anniversary and to the cemetery to go see him I stopped at Academy and picked up a Mustang. Wore it today and I know my dad was smiling down.
