Going to hit Fayette in the morning. Last time I was there I was a kid years ago, so I don't remember much. What's the idea lures to be throwing and any stumps to worry about running out there? Probably going to put in at Oak Thicket

Thanks?

Go deep. Throw some deep crankbaits, throw a mag shaky head, a Carolina rig, and a football jig. You can go flip the reeds with a Tx rig too.

Just fish... that lake has the highest fish population of any lake ive been to... hard to catch big ones but not hard to just catch fish

Update on today...

Got to Oak thicket around 7am. There was already a ton of boats there. Put in, went straight to the dam. Fished there with rattle traps and trick worms for about 45 mins and didn't even get a bite. Hauled over to the hot water intake, nothing. Went over to the discharge.. I hung about 4 pounder on a watermelon seed lizard but he got off pretty close to the boat. Got stopped by the game warden just asking for life jackets and what not, and I went ahead and asked him if anybody is doing any good, and he told me nobody has anything to brag about. So around 10:30-11 I loaded back up and headed back to Houston. Slow day, hot, and too many damn people

Don't give up that lake. It can be fickle at times but it can also be very rewarding.

Lol, man I'm born/raised here. The heat doesn't bother me, it's just when you combine that with a million boats and not getting but one bite all day

I fished that lake for many years starting when it opened and caught a lot of big bass until they went to the slot and ruined it as far as i am concerned.

There was a 3 fish limit and they had to be 16 inches. Two days of catching lots of fat bass 15 3/4 inches long would bloody your thumb from lipping them. Also caught many big bass. Longest was 25 1/8.

After the slot people kept so many below the slot the big bass became hard for me to find.
Sad. JMHO, FWIW.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

It's a 2,400 acre lake and there are people asking, reporting, and writing about it every day on the Internet.

Hard to believe it might be crowded.

Lake Athens Syndrome.

This time of year, at first light you can catch them shallow with a trap or popper but it dies pretty quick, go deep and find the schools.
