Lots of fish get those red sores this time of year from spawning. I assume that's what y'all are talking about

Here's a good article on red sore disease. It shows up in the spring and fall and is caused by a bacterium and/or protozoan. Most fish recover. Safe to eat if cooked properly. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/VM/VM05900.pdfDuring the spawning season, you'll see fish with red tails but it's usually only the bottom part of the tail that's damaged. Red sore disease can affect any area of the fish including gills, fins and skin.

I'm guessing all of the runoff back in that creek was killing everything. It was so muddy you couldn't see an inch under the water. The majority of the lake was fine when I made this post. It was just the creek area that I mentioned that had fish floating in it everywhere. I plan on going back out there this weekend to check it out.

whoops! I couldn't catch any fish the last day I was out there and we fished for largemouth for a couple hours. Back On Track. Thanks for the updates on the fish kill that wasn't a major issue.

Slade are you saying I just made this up? If you were on the lake the day of the post and went to walnut creek you could smell the dead fish before you got to the small dock. There were fish of all species floating upside down or swimming in circles

My guess is it had something to do with all of the run off since it was right after a storm. The water was extremely muddy. Does anyone know if water can get so muddy that oxygen levels drop? I did speak with the people at the state park about the issue.
