A guy was wading out on the bay side and casting out and catching some small perch looking fish and putting them in a bait bucket.
Is anyone familiar with that? Was it piggy perch and do people use them off peirs, jetty or beach for reds or something? Do they fish them whole, on bottom, under a cork?
What kind of rig, hook, bait do they use to catch them, if anyone knows? Thanks, eye
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

Sabiki rigs are awesome for catching bait...fun too! More than likely it was piggies...but lots of stuff will bite the sabiki rigs. Get some at Academy there is Corpus and have a blast under the lights at night.

Thanks, Nag. Do specks hit them. I wonder if they would work on bream and crappie.

I have caught whites and crappie on the bigger rigs and the small rigs! I am sure trout would hit them too.

And yes bluegill will hammer them as well as ghosties, shad, big spot tails, everything pretty much.

Use the sabiki to catch the bait, then use the bait to catch trout or reds.
look up croaker fishing rigs ... basically a carolina rig with a rattle chamber (Salt shaker). Just the carolina rig would also work. Use a 2/0 (or up to 5/0) gammy kahle hook and it will catch anything from trout, reds, flounder, even up to oversized reds.

From my experience the pin fish you catch on a rod will be too large for bay fishing. There are flats all around that area, use a castnet over grass for small pinfish and mullet and use those, you will do better. If you are uncertain as to what size to look for just stop at a bait shop and look at the size they sell.
