I have been wanting to purchase some new fly line recently and have researched various fly lines. I have seen many varying opinions on the importance of fly line color with regards to spooking fish. What are you guys' opinions on fly line color? Does it matter?

I think it's more hype than anything. Ideally, if you throw in the pocket accurate enough the fly line won't make a noticeable impact. However, it does matter if 'you' can see it or not, particularly at normal-Texan-summer fishing hours.

I don't think color makes a bit of difference since you have a 7+ foot leader on the line. If you slap a heavy fly line down right on top of a fish, you will likely spook it regardless of if it is neon orange or clear. I have reels with light blue, bright green, yellow and bright orange, and I can't tell a bit of difference in their performance.
