Grown son and i pulled up to some deep water docks on Buchanan last weekend on Mon AM. Fishing was just ok. With monnows he got about 6 good crappie and some gills before i gave up on the jigs and joined him. None of the bream were quite big enough to take for dinner. frown

I use small jigs with blue/white tube tails, SKing chartreuse little suckers with a deep belly and long tail, plus smoke/sparkle curley tails on tiny jig heads. After 8 pearch and no crappie i went with minnows.

We ended with 15. 8 really good sized.

Wife, he and I ate several tonight. I had filleted them at the lake and left ribs on. I have seen those normally thrown away but these were good sized slabs. I kept ribs and the wife fried them in cornmeal after the main meal. An hour later i went and tried them. Theres a lot of good meat left on those bones. I got a few tiny pin bones from the top of the ribs but they were very small and fine. They went down well with a little wine. I wont be throwing those away in the future.

Anyway. My dx is that for crappie, minnows are king.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

They can be so picky at times but offer some good eating. Never tried leaving the ribs in,now frying the small ones whole and eating the tail like a potato chip, yum yum!

Not all the time(minnows), I've seen where jigs kill em' and my buddy with minners gets 1 or 2 and that's it. Minnows may work a little better in the Summer when they're deep, but in most cases with me, I've done more damage with jigs the rest of the year.

Also, be careful with those bones, especially the fine ones with the ribs still in. It only takes one to be a choking hazard.

That said, glad y'all caught some and had a fresh, tasty dinner.

PEPOP's...GRAPE LIMEADE AND GRAPEFRUIT LIMEADE FEATHER JIGS 1/8 OUNCE.

I load the boat with those two jigs every single week.

The Crappie love them or hate them however you want to look at it.

There is an occasional day where they want plastic instead, but those two feathers by Pepop have put limit after limit in the boat for me.

I know I have not posted any pics on here, but those that know me on here have gotten the pics from me to back it up.

And there are days where they want a minnow too and nothing else.

Tight Lines! fish

I had cut the rib section off before frying, the fried the bigger rib section. Ate them by pulling the meat off the ribs. The bones i was referring to were the tiny little lateral ones above the top of the ribs. There was almost nothing to them as they were soft and very small, unlike those same type on other species.

Eyeball on Pepop's website www.handtiedcrappiejigs.com

Go to #9 Premium Hand Tied Crappie Jigs

Grape Limeade and Grapefruit Limeade are the two colors that have been loading the boat for me.

Not sure why PEPOP hasn't responded to your PM, but my guess is he hasn't read it yet. I know he has been super busy for whatever it's worth. I'm sure he will get in touch soon as he can.

Tight Lines!

Haven't been since Wednesday and before all this rain. Was thinking about possibly going in the morning if the rain doesn't come back in. Not sure what the water is looking like now (had 4.70 inches at my place Fri/Fri night).

I may just bring a cat pole and Stubby's bait with me just in case the paper mouths aren't hungry. Only caught 2 keeps and about 15 dinks on Wednesday before the big rains.
