Whether to buy 2 power poles at $3000.00 or just spend the money and get a spot lock trolling motor, which is less than 2 power poles. To me the spot lock would be the better investment as you are not limited to shallow water. Your thoughts.

Will be an interesting decision. I fish mainly shallow water so the anchoring systems(I have Talons) was the call for me. if you mainly fish deeper water then I can see the spot lock working better. I use the Talons for so many things its just really convenient to have them.

tie off to dock or pull up to shore and drop em so you don't move
retie and don't want to drift off
see a bed fish or want to work a spot well so drop em and don't move
launch and while waiting to go just put em down and sit
if its really windy use em(if shallow enough) to stay in one area and work it longer than just blowing thru

I would think spot lock would do almost all the same stuff. good luck with the decision!!

I've never had power poles but I will say my MG X5i is the ticket. It holds the boat rock steady even in sting winds. About the only disadvantage I could see in it is if you're fishing shallow flats where the trolling motor could spook the fish

I have 2 power poles and recently bought an Ultrex. If I had to choose between the two it would be a hard decision, really depends on how you fish the most I think. Right now I'm using the spot lock way more than my power poles. Just used the contour following Wednesday for the first time. I think the Ultrex is the favorite thing on my boat right now but when we're fishing shallow I like the power poles more. The shallow water anchors are especially great for docking at times. Tough decision!
