Never been there but going this weekend to fish there and maybe dam b. Is bevelport a decent ramp for a bass boat? How is it running the river? What kind of hazards and where? I will take it easy and idle anything off the main river. Thanks for any help

Just got back from Rayburn and was wondering about this place. While on 63 going south past the turn for Dam few miles down toward Jasper there looked like a good public Ramp 4-5 trucks in there looked really good said Angelina River. But the place we stayed they said behind the dam was the Neches. Wanted to try it out stayed on main lake though.

There are 2 ramps. HWY 63 and Bevelport. 63 ramp is better but less parking, bevelport has more parking but smaller ramp. You can run the river with ease just stay in the middle. If they are generating put in at bevelport and get in a back lake. If you are new to the river, trying to fish it while its flowing can be tricky and sometimes dangerous. If it isn't flowing fishing out on the main river can very productive. Plenty of spotted bass but there is some really good largemouth along the main river as well. Towards the other end past bevelport will provide you some really good back waters. Possible to get your arm broke throwing a frog. The Angelina below the dam is an amazing fishery. An 11lber was caught last week. Best of luck.

It's been a few years since I have fished the river. The fishing is awesome when you get the pattern down. The ramp on hwy 63 is good. As far as fishing dam b never have been down that far. The water will be clear all the way down till the Angelina meets the neches. As far as running the Angelina you are good on the main river the creeks and oxbows are tight you can idle in but there is no way you could go in on pad. If you go please give a reporter on how you do. I will say this cause like said been years since on river, use to catch 100 bass a day on fire tiger crankbait once we got it patterned.

I grew up close to there fishing it often. If you just want to get bites, definitely go when generating. Go up to the dam and float your way back casting to any cover available. Small tx rigs like finesse worms and baby brush hogs in watermelon colors. Also if close to dark, yellow magic will work great. The bluff banks with springs dripping out are guaranteed spotted bass.

Back in the day-40 years ago-my Dad, brother and I would launch at Bevilport and float the river down to the Neches. Then crank up and run down to the ramp at Dam B where my Mom would be waiting with the truck and trailer. It took most of the day. We caught tons of fish and some really big bass. Most trips we never saw another boat. Purple Fliptail worms were the ticket back then.

Skipper I fish there pretty much every week. In the river you are good to run, if you go into the lake be very careful running around.

Becareful cell service can be little or zero. If go in the back water make sure you know how to get out. Also you can get trapped if you stay in the back water when the water falls. The big lake below is a lot of fun but you have to know where to run. It can be very shallow outside the creeks.

Well I promised a report so here's what I got. I fished the angelina Friday and we fished the neches and dam b today. It's a pretty neat place to fish. Some good looking water, some not so good, but lots of wildlife and stuff to take in. Didn't catch a ton either day and there really wasn't a magic bait. Just junk fishing whatever we found. Caught a few good ones but never could really make a pattern or find an area that held a lot. Just one here or there. Didn't fish the main rivers much except in dam b. That place is a mud hole though. There's a bunch of grass around walnut ridge but same story, couldn't get many bites. When the weather is better (spring time) I bet it fishes a lot better. Thanks for the help guys

You keep going down the river to dam B! Can catch probably 200 spotted bass in one day flipping a finesse jig on all the the lay downs.

Great report by the way.

Looking at google map, it looks like its a quite a few miles between Rayburn Dam and Dam B.

I know nothing of the Angelina below Rayburn. It sure looks intresting to run/fish etc. Can you run from dam to dam or is it Alum/Jon boat stuff.

Somebody give me the skinny, seems like some of you guys know quite a bit about the area.

I think when I retire it would be fun to spend some time on some of the larger Rivers in the state. I want to do someother types of fishing other than Tournaments. Due to time, I don't fish many tournaments.

Somebody give some more details on whats below Rayburn. It sure looks pretty when you dirver over.

Thanks, Billy

Stay in the middle when running from dam south. It's open for the most part. After big rains you have floaters come down from the neches so anything after the forks be careful. Typically it's pretty open. All the spotted bass you want to catch when generating. Good eating clean fish
