Curious what you fellas think. Went to the coast this weekend all our running around over a few days we covered about 33 miles on the water, majority of the distance traveled was about 3500-4000 rpm cruising from spot to spot. Boat is a 24' Carolina Skiff DLX with a Suzuki DF150. There were 9 people in the boat(6 adults and 3 kids 6 and under). I filled the tank on the way to the coast and on the way home, have a 28 gallon tank. Pic of the boat. How many gallons of gas do you think we burned? I was pretty surprised.

Your either lucky or good, I'll let you pick 10.2 gallons had it brimming full again. That comes out to 3.2 mpg, I was amazed. Our old boat a 19 foot Carolina skiff with a 1985 70 hp evinrude 2 stroke would have burned 2 times that amount of fuel on the same trip.

I'm probably nutz by some peoples standards already, but its ok I feel the same way about them.
I hadn't even paid it any attention until we filled it up on the way home and it only took 10 gallons. I'm going to have to see if I can get the trip distance off our GPS, because I know the 33 is on the low side as I scaled it off a map straight line.

3 miles per gallon is pretty much normal.

3 miles per gallon is pretty much normal. Normal for what? Are the modern 2 strokes doing that well also? Be it 1985 technology, but our old 2 stroke drank like a fish compared to this.

I had pretty much the same experience. I ran my 135hp mercruiser for about 5 hours the other day and used around 10 gallons. I would have used twice that with the old Mercury 150hp 2-stroke.

Did you have 6 adults 3 kids a 225 and a 75 quart ice chest in the boat with a full live well?
I'm really interested in how it compares to modern 2-strokes.

LOL! Close. I had about 1000lbs of people plus 3 ice chests plus wet life jackets/towels/tube/kneeboard/misc gear in the boat when I wasn't dragging somebody. We were pretty loaded...and it still sipped the gas. Words I never used with the Mercury 150. That 2-stroke was a 95 model without EFI. I'm sure EFI does a little better.

I'm really interested in how it compares to modern 2-strokes. Read the original post. Lots of information to consider mileage. A motor not propped correctly will use a lot more fuel. The modern 2 strokes will get after the fuel too if you keep your foot in it or put too high a pitched prop on it. Ethanol has hurt motor efficiencies.
