I've got the helix 12 with that large rubber cover. I had to stop using it because I'd go back to the unit days later and find that when I put the cover on, it had powered up the unit. I've been extra careful putting it on do it wouldn't hit the power button but sometimes find that it still did. Anyone else having the same issue?

Yep, I always unplug mine after shutting down then put the cover on. If you use the rib when putting it on the unit it helps but in my opinion still a flaw in the cover.

No problem since no power is connected to mine when I put the cover on just before I put it in my tow vehicle.

I have an older Champion and it is mounted on top of the dash and is surrounded by the windshield so it is very difficult to get to the back to unplug it. I have to remove the entire unit to get to the plug and it is very difficult to reach the knobs to remove it. I kind of chose the location for that reason to make it harder on someone trying to steal it. I guess I could wire in a power switch. It cost so much I hate to not protect it.

True. I still need to add one because of the Talon anyway. That will be the best solution.

My sonars are removed and put to bed in their Pelican cases before travel. They even come off when I get to the campsite. Nothing stays in my boat overnight

I wish HB offered a hard cover. You have to be careful that there is nothing on the inside of the cover that can rub the screen. I learned that one the hard way.
