Do you run a 2 or 3 bank on board battery system? As in one for the cranking battery and 2 for the trolling motor or do you just charge your trolling motor batteries only?

My boat came with a 2 bank but I switch between the 2 trolling batteries. I need to upgrade to a 3 bank.

I use a 2 bank with an automatic charging relay. This allows trolling motor batteries to also be charged from the outboard and can even be set up to charge from tow vehicle. Got it years ago, no problems at all.

I use a three bank. One on each tm battery and one on the cranking battery. I feel like I need to top off and float the cranking battery after each trip. I don't believe the small charging system built into the outboard is sufficient to keep the cranking battery healthy since I start, run and short distance, then run three graphs and livewell system all day. I know the cranking battery bank of the charger usually shows the green light before either tm battery bankdoes, but it usually takes an hour or so to top it off.

I have one for the trolling batteries and one for the starting. Wish I would have sprung for the 3 bank.

Yes, especially since I am bad about moving a lot with the big motor and that helps keep them charged. I don't carry extra trolling motor batteries on a weekend trip like I used to....

If you don't run a 3 bank, carry a spare portable trickle charger you can hook up with alligator clips. Nothing worse than getting up early, having hot trolling motor batteries and realizing you left the key on and the cranking battery is dead.

I run a 4 bank. 2 for trolling motor, 1 for electronics, 1 for big motor. Big motor and electronics battery are interlined to charge together when running big motor.
