If you have a deep spot on a lake where you've found fish before, do you graph over that spot to check for fish during a tournament, or would you just pull up and fish it without driving over them to keep from spooking them?

Good question. I don't have an answer, but I would like to hear the opinions. Also, for those that drive over to check, how deep does it need to be before you're comfortable graphing them first?

If it's the Skeeters, you better fish it before someone else sets up on it. IF you idle past it, it will be covered up before you can circle back.

We fish deep most of the winter. If I know the fish are already on it we will try to stay off of it as much as we can.

Especially in tournaments where you need the few right bites.

And remember to fizz, if your not used to deep fishing on tournament days.

I've been with guides on Fork that had idled right over the top of a school of fish in 12' and turn around and start catching them. I am not comfortable idling over them unless the water is at least 15-17' deep on top of the structure I am fishing but who knows?? Many times, I have graphed fish in that depth of water and started catching them right away on a crankbait or a C-rig.

With the advent of side imaging, you don't have to get over the top of the school any longer. The new technology is pretty remarkable.

I always drive by and check if they are there, catching schools out deep is all about timing no need to waisted your time of unproductive water when you think there there but not sure because you didn't want to drive over them. I have driven over spots 3-4 times in a day and they not be there well the 5th time I checked them they were there, that would of been 4 times I waisted and probably 30min per trip to find out they weren't there because I didn't want to drive over them. Always drive over and check.

I've idled over fish in 10ft and catch them. I think on heavier pressured lakes it doesn't affect them much.

I had boats driving over my c-rig on Lewisville last Sunday and caught fish all day. Doesn't bother them a bit

Thanks from me as well. It helps to get opinions from those with experience. I just purchase the Humminbird 10 Mega SI and I'm going to force myself to fish deep more this summer so I can figure the deep fish out.

Practice yes
In a tournament If I know they are there I never drive over them
and certainly do not throw out a marker (boat magnet).

Best thing to do is spend a lot of time searching and doing homework from home it will pay off big in the long run.

I've found the opposite to be true. Once those deep fish on Fork start getting beat up, you can idle over them and they'll be stacked up. Turn around and they're gone! I've seen it happen too many times to be anything but pressure induced. By the way Jaret, 10 ft. is deep? roflmao
