I'm in market for new truck. Does anyone have any experience with the new Titans?

Your best bet would be looking around on a Titan forum.Most forums you will hear the good and the bad about a vehicle.

My father in law bought one of the new Titan XD's with the 5.0 cummins diesel in it.

He doesn't have a bunch of miles on it but so far is happy. I have ridden in it quite a bit, it has good power, is quiet and pretty smooth. The fuel mileage isn't what he hoped for, but it likely due to his driving habits. He has a short commute and averages about 15 mpg. They took it to Louisiana and back this weekend and got 18 on the hwy at 75.

I haven't heard anything bad about the gas models, I think the only negative is fuel mileage.

I bought one of the first,2004, best vehicle I ever owned. drove ten years and replaced only the battery twice.
My job moved, and I bought a Versa,..went from 15mpg to 35 mpg,..sweet.

Have not heard much positive about the new Titan. Resale has historically been poor for Titans and will probably continue. This review came across the internet a little while back. Pretty interesting.

My father in law now has about 10,000 miles on his. I followed him to the dealer Saturday to drop it off for work. It is a push button start and is hard to start. If you push the button it will crank and start, or crank for like 20 seconds and then stop if it doesn't start and you do it again. He was having to let it crank 3-4 times before it would start, so cranking for 60-80 seconds??

They were suppose to look at it today, ill let yal know what they say.

Not sure about the Titan forum but on the Toyota forums it is the ones with bad experiences that seem to post more than others. I will be in the market soon myself. Thought about Titan but I hate chrome and that front is just too shiny for me. If I buy a Tundra I already know how to take care of the chrome on it. Plus I think Tundras are better truck and definitely have higher resale.

I'm still trying to understand how the XD even fits in the market. Its touted as more than a half ton but the numbers are pitiful. It's towing capacity is only about 200lbs more then Fords and Chevys half ton yet its cargo capacity is barely half of theirs. Yeah its got a diesel but it's fuel economy bites compared to most half ton gassers. Then toss in the cost of maintaining a diesels such as DEF fluid and fuel filters and it makes the truck even less appealing.

I'm far from a titan fan, but I will counter your thoughts with this...

Go get a 5.3 chevy, 5.0 ford 5.7 tundra, 5.7 ram and a 6.2 chevy and hook a 10,000 lb travel trailer up to all of them and tow it across the country and across the mountains or heck even just a hilly stretch, 555 ft.lbs or torque will be made evident very quickly. I left out the ecoboost because like the titan/cummins it has very good low end umph.

I have a 2013 F250 PSD so I dont have a dog in this fight. I am however thinking of going back to a 1/2ton and will say that Fords ecoboost is quite impressive. Compared it to the Titan and I have to say, the Titan doesn't make sense when you factor in the cost of maintaining a diesel.

There is no comparison in towing with a 5.0 Cummins versus most half-ton gas engines. But overall, the XD doesn't do a great job of fitting in the market. Fuel efficiency and ownership cost of a 3/4 ton without the same level of towing capability. Likely poor resale and high purchase price. But it's not an altogether bad truck - just an odd set of features, prices, and performance that probably won't appeal to a ton of people outside of the concept of a Cummins in a half ton.

I looked at the Titan Cummins at the dealer when I bought my wife's new SUV. Then I read all the reviews and as stated alot of people have a hard time starting truck. One other thing to consider is Nissan has the cheapest paint in the industry period. The dealer kept trying to sell me a paint package where they would buff the vehicle like three times a year and touch up any dings. Now I know why you even look at it hard and the dang paint chips off. I would have a hard time shelling out that kind of money for a hipped up Titan with cheap paint. I've owned all three Diesel Truck brands.

Duramax is still my #1 and I currently own a Cummins that runs like a raped ape.

I completely agree that the titan cummins stats on paper are pitiful, payload is low and like others have said for the fuel economy and cost there is pretty much no reason to not buy a 3/4 ton diesel.
